The Northern Regional Police Command is providing protection and temporary shelter for a 20-year-old woman whose intimate images were allegedly circulated online following an assault and blackmail incident in Tamale.

According to reports, the victim was found in a vehicle with a man when two individuals allegedly confronted them, seized her clothes, filmed her while naked, and physically assaulted her.

The woman later claimed the suspects attempted to blackmail her into having sex, threatening to publicly release the footage if she refused.

Investigations into the case have now been transferred from the district level to the Northern Regional Police Command.

Northern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Wisdom Lavoe, confirmed that the police have engaged the Department of Social Welfare and other stakeholders to ensure the victim receives the necessary protection and support.

Meanwhile, Tamale-based solicitor Sylvester Isang has volunteered to provide legal representation for the young woman free of charge.

The incident has generated widespread concern after reports emerged that the victim allegedly attempted to take her own life following the circulation of the footage online.

Police say investigations are still ongoing.

The misuse of technology to humiliate, blackmail, and psychologically destroy vulnerable individuals is becoming a dangerous social crisis. Beyond arrests, society must begin teaching digital responsibility, respect for human dignity, and the consequences of online abuse. Victims of public humiliation deserve support, protection, and justice, not mockery.
