NACOC set to issue licences to qualified applicants for cannabis cultivation – Deputy Director-General

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) says it is nearing the final stages of reviewing applications for cannabis licences, with successful applicants expected to receive approval to begin operations soon.

Deputy Director-General Alexander Twum-Barimah disclosed at the Kwahu Business Forum:

“We are carefully reviewing all applications submitted under the various license categories. Those who fully satisfy the criteria will soon be issued their licenses to begin operations.”

Commentary: This move is seen as a strategic step to boost economic opportunities while maintaining strong regulatory control. The legal cannabis industry could provide employment, foster investments, and generate revenue, but strict compliance is essential to prevent misuse.

“The goal is to strike a balance between enabling economic development and safeguarding public health and security,” Twum-Barimah added.
