This year’s Kwahu Easter celebrations have recorded significantly lower crime rates and notable improvements in sanitation, according to local authorities and event organizers.

The annual festival, which draws thousands of visitors to the Kwahu enclave in Ghana’s Eastern Region, is widely regarded as one of the country’s biggest tourism and cultural events. Known for its vibrant atmosphere, paragliding activities, and social gatherings, Kwahu Easter often presents logistical and security challenges due to the large crowds it attracts.

However, for 2026, authorities say the situation has been markedly different.

Security agencies, including the Ghana Police Service, reported minimal criminal incidents throughout the celebration period, a development attributed to increased police visibility, strategic deployment, and enhanced surveillance across key locations.

Officials indicated that lessons from previous years were applied to improve crowd control, traffic management, and rapid response systems, ensuring that potential disturbances were quickly addressed before escalating.

In addition to improved security, sanitation conditions during the festivities also saw significant progress.

Local assemblies and sanitation teams intensified waste management efforts, deploying additional personnel and equipment to maintain cleanliness across major event areas. Public education campaigns were also carried out to encourage responsible waste disposal among revelers.

Authorities say these combined efforts resulted in cleaner streets, reduced littering, and a more organized environment compared to previous editions of the festival.

Tourism stakeholders have welcomed the improvements, noting that safety and cleanliness are critical factors in sustaining the long-term appeal of Kwahu Easter as both a domestic and international attraction.

The festival’s success is also expected to boost local businesses, including hospitality providers, food vendors, and transport operators, who benefit significantly from the influx of visitors during the Easter period.

Residents of the Kwahu area expressed satisfaction with the overall organization of the event, highlighting the peaceful atmosphere and improved coordination between security agencies and local authorities.

Despite the positive outcomes, officials emphasize the need for continuous improvement, particularly as attendance is expected to grow in future years.

They note that maintaining high standards in security and sanitation will be essential to preserving the reputation of Kwahu Easter as a safe and enjoyable celebration.

As the 2026 festivities come to a close, stakeholders are already looking ahead, with calls for sustained investment in infrastructure, planning, and community engagement to ensure even better outcomes in subsequent editions.
