Environment Canada puts Brampton under Special Weather Statement

A weather warning has been issued for Peel region, according to Environment Canada.

The national weather agency has issued a Special Weather Statement applying to Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon, warning of freezing rain beginning Friday night and into Saturday (Dec. 22-23).

“Hazards” have been identified for Peel residents, including patchy freezing rain leading to light ice build-up, as freezing rain is expected overnight into Saturday morning, Environment Canada said.

“Icy and slippery conditions possible, particularly on untreated surfaces,” the statement for Peel residents reads.

“Freezing rain amounts are expected to be minor, but may still lead to icy and slippery conditions, particularly on untreated surfaces,” the statement warns.

For areas closer to Lake Ontario, mainly rain is expected as temperatures should be above the freezing mark, Environment Canada said, adding freezing rain warnings may be required for some areas.
