Accra, Ghana, January 1, 2026, The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of Evans Eshun, widely known as Ebo Noah, a self-styled prophet whose controversial prophecy of a global flood sparked national debate and concern in recent months.

Ebo Noah was taken into custody on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, by the Inspector General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting Team, according to an official police statement. The arrest follows weeks of intense public attention around his prediction that a catastrophic flood would begin on December 25, 2025, and that salvation could only be found in specially constructed “arks.”

Doomsday Prophecy and Social Media Frenzy

The 30-year-old first gained widespread attention in August 2025, when he claimed he had received a divine warning about an impending worldwide flood and began building what he described as modern-day arks to shelter believers. Through videos shared on social media, he urged people to travel to designated sites and prepare for the disaster.

Hundreds of followers including some from neighboring countries reportedly abandoned their homes and travelled long distances to join him, raising security and humanitarian concerns among authorities.

When the predicted flood did not materialize on Christmas Day, Ebo Noah released a video claiming that God had postponed the disaster in response to his prayers and fasting. The unconventional explanation triggered widespread ridicule and outrage online, with many accusing him of misleading the public.

Public Backlash and Police Response

The situation escalated after Ebo Noah appeared onstage at a high-profile music concert Rapperholic 2025 held by renowned artist Sarkodie on December 25. Dressed in his trademark apparel, he told fans to celebrate because the doomsday had been delayed, drawing stronger criticism and calls for law enforcement action.

In response, the Ghana Police Service has reiterated that prophecies or public statements that cause fear, panic or public disorder are subject to scrutiny under existing laws, especially during sensitive times such as the year-end religious season.

Arrest and Ongoing Investigation

Police have not yet disclosed formal charges, specific allegations, or whether other individuals are being investigated in connection with the case. Authorities have stated that Ebo Noah remains in custody to assist with ongoing investigations, and they have urged the public to avoid speculation while due process is followed.

The arrest has sparked mixed reactions online. Some Ghanaians have expressed support for the police action as a necessary step to curb misinformation and maintain public calm, while others have questioned whether arresting a religious figure was appropriate.

Broader Conversation on Misinformation
The Ebo Noah saga has highlighted broader issues around social media influence, misinformation, and religious expression in Ghana and across the African continent. Authorities and civil society groups have stressed the importance of responsible communication, particularly when claims can affect public behavior and safety.
