Egypt kicked off the 2023 African Games with a commanding performance in table tennis, winning both the men’s and women’s singles titles at the Accra International Conference Centre.
In the women’s final, 16-year-old Hana Goda defeated Africa’s top-ranked player, Dina Meshref, 4-2 to claim the top prize.
Mohamed Assar Omar beat competition from Nigeria’s Quadri Aruna in the men’s division to win gold after completing a comeback to win 4-3.
Success in the table tennis competition means Egypt lead the medal table with four, followed by Nigeria with two, while Algeria and Senegal each have one.
Ghana had all of its representatives in the singles competition exit the competition on Monday, March 4.
The opening ceremony for the 2023 African Games is set for March 8, 2024, at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon.
