Ghanaian forward Prince Kwabena Adu is building momentum at club level after scoring three goals in his last three appearances for Czech Republic side Viktoria Plzeň, providing an encouraging development ahead of the Black Stars’ upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches.
The 23-year-old continued his impressive run on Thursday, November 5, when he scored the decisive goal in Viktoria Plzeň’s 1-0 victory over Norwegian side Lillestrøm in the UEFA Europa League.
Adu found the back of the net just 10 minutes into the encounter, giving his side an early advantage that they managed to protect until the final whistle.
The Ghanaian striker played until the 70th minute before being substituted for Christophe Kabongo.
His latest strike means he has now scored three goals in his last three appearances across competitions, offering a timely reminder of his attacking qualities as Ghana prepare for their November international assignments.
Adu returns to scoring form after injury setback
Adu’s recent performances are particularly encouraging given the injury problems that disrupted his involvement in Ghana’s previous AFCON qualifying fixtures.
The forward was unavailable for the Black Stars’ September matches against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia after suffering a head injury during a club appearance.
His absence meant Ghana had to continue their qualifying campaign without one of the attacking options who had previously been introduced into the national-team setup.
Following his recovery, the former Bechem United attacker has gradually returned to action for Viktoria Plzeň and is now showing signs of renewed confidence in front of goal.
His latest three-match scoring run could strengthen his case for consideration as Ghana prepare for the next stage of their qualifying campaign.
Europa League goal boosts confidence
The goal against Lillestrøm was particularly important for Viktoria Plzeň, as it secured a 1-0 away victory in European competition.
Adu’s early finish demonstrated his ability to make an impact in a competitive European fixture, while the result gave the Czech club an important win.
The Ghanaian forward will now be looking to maintain his scoring consistency in the club’s upcoming domestic and European fixtures.
For the Black Stars, his return to form offers another attacking possibility as the technical team assesses its options for the remaining qualifying matches.
Ghana face Somalia in crucial November double-header
Ghana are preparing for a two-legged encounter against Somalia in the November international window.
The first meeting is scheduled for November 12, with the return fixture set for November 16.
The fixtures come after a difficult start to the qualifying campaign, with the Black Stars losing 2-0 away to Côte d’Ivoire before suffering a 4-2 home defeat against The Gambia.
Those results have increased the importance of the upcoming matches, leaving Ghana under pressure to collect points and improve their position in the qualifying group.
The Black Stars’ technical direction has also changed following Carlos Queiroz’s departure, with Kim Lars Björkegren appointed to lead the team.
The new coaching setup will be expected to assess the available attacking options as Ghana attempt to recover from their opening defeats.
Can Adu make a difference for the Black Stars?
Adu’s recent goalscoring form provides a positive development for Ghana, particularly as the team searches for greater attacking effectiveness.
His experience in European football, movement in the final third and ability to find scoring opportunities could make him a useful option in the upcoming fixtures.
However, his club form does not automatically guarantee a place in the national-team squad. His fitness, match readiness and the technical team’s selection decisions will determine whether he features against Somalia.
For now, the forward’s immediate task is to maintain his momentum at Viktoria Plzeň and continue delivering performances that strengthen his international prospects.
With Ghana facing an important November double-header, Adu’s return to goals could not have come at a more significant time for the Black Stars.
