The Government of Ghana has assured comprehensive support for nationals who have returned from Côte d’Ivoire following demolition operations that left many displaced and stranded. Authorities say the focus now is on resettlement, medical care, and livelihood restoration.

Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Akweley Ocloo, explained that state institutions are working together to ensure no returnee is left without assistance.

“I want to sincerely thank the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of both Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, as well as His Excellency the President and all stakeholders who ensured our brothers and sisters were brought home safely,” she said.

She further noted the government’s commitment to long-term reintegration:

“The government is ever ready to support them so that whatever losses they have suffered, they can get back on their feet and make their stay in Ghana fruitful,” she stated.

Officials confirmed that 303 returnees have been recorded, with some transported to regions including Cape Coast, Takoradi, and the Eastern Region. Medical screening and emergency relief support have already been provided.

Commentary:

This situation highlights the growing vulnerability of migrant workers in West Africa and raises questions about regional urban enforcement practices. Ghana’s response will be tested not just by immediate relief, but by whether long-term economic reintegration actually succeeds.
