Former Deputy Attorney-General Alfred Tuah-Yeboah has welcomed the extradition of former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) Chief Executive Officer Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu from the United States.

Speaking after her return to Ghana, Mr. Tuah-Yeboah described the development as a significant victory for Ghana’s justice system and evidence of effective international cooperation.

Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu was convicted in absentia by an Accra High Court in 2024 and sentenced to ten years imprisonment over offences linked to financial losses suffered by the state during her tenure at MASLOC.

Following her conviction, Ghanaian authorities initiated extradition proceedings that eventually secured her return after approval by a U.S. court.

Mr. Tuah-Yeboah commended both American authorities and officials at Ghana’s Attorney-General’s Department for their roles in the process.

“Let me first and foremost extend congratulations to the U.S. authorities for responding to our request and taking the necessary steps to bring Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu down to Ghana.”

He further praised state prosecutors who worked on the case.

“It is also important that I commend the hardworking attorneys at the Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice.”

The former Deputy Attorney-General expressed confidence that the extradition process would continue successfully despite the change in government.

The case has generated renewed public discussion about accountability and the state’s ability to pursue individuals who leave the country while facing legal proceedings.

Commentary

The successful extradition sends a strong signal that geographical distance does not necessarily shield convicted persons from legal consequences. It may also encourage stronger international partnerships in future anti-corruption efforts.
