SAMUEL TOBBIN HANDS OVER NEW LANDMARK CHURCH COMPLEX TO ACCRA NEWTOWN PENTECOST ASSEMBLY

Accra, August 16, 2026 – The Accra Newtown Assembly of The Church of Pentecost has received a major infrastructure boost following the completion and dedication of a new church complex funded by businessman and philanthropist Dr Elder Samuel Nana Amo Tobbin.
Named the Margaret Tobbin Temple in memory of his late mother, the facility was formally dedicated to the congregation on Sunday.
A video tour circulated online after the ceremony, providing a glimpse into the new structure and its facilities.
More than a worship centre
The new complex has been designed to accommodate several functions beyond regular worship.
It features a main sanctuary with stage lighting and seating, children’s classrooms, facilities for youth activities, pastoral offices, a kitchen, lounge, library and washrooms.
The facility therefore provides space for worship, teaching, administration and other church activities.
The project has attracted positive reactions online, with several members of the public praising the investment in religious and community infrastructure.
A continuation of philanthropy
The project adds to Dr Tobbin’s reported record of charitable activities.
The Tobinco Group Chairman, who has publicly spoken about his Christian faith and serves as a Presiding Elder of The Church of Pentecost, has supported a number of charitable initiatives over the years.
He has reportedly made substantial annual donations towards assisting less-privileged members of the church and surrounding communities.
His philanthropy has also extended beyond the church. In 2024, during celebrations marking his 60th birthday, he reportedly donated to the Ghana Prison Service.
He also contributed 6 million CFA francs towards The Church of Pentecost’s Togo for Christ crusade.
A legacy in his mother’s name
The decision to name the facility after his late mother gives the project a personal dimension, turning the building into both a religious facility and a memorial gesture.
The Margaret Tobbin Temple consequently represents an intersection of faith, family legacy, philanthropy and community development.
COMMENTARY
The significance of the project goes beyond the appearance of the building. When properly utilised, facilities of this nature can support worship, children’s education, youth development and community activities for many years.
